How important is a mouthpiece?
VERY!!!
Most, junior & high school students are still using the mouthpiece they had in elementary school, & even that was probably the wrong one.
Most trumpet players should be using at least a 5C
trombone players a 6.5AL
For sax & clarinet players, I usually recommend a Rico B5, with at least a 2.5 reed.
Before you buy a professional instrument consider how good a player are you. That $2000 or more might be better invested in lessons. It’s wonderful to own a pro instrument but it won’t make you a better player.
Never put your clarinet away wet, or your flute, or your saxophone
Moisture can cause the pads to bloat & loose their seat, sometimes even burst. It can get into the mechanism resulting in rust. If you have to put it in the case, take it out as soon as possible, and let it dry.

Never lean your instrument against anything. Not the wall, or a chair, the piano, or your amp. Even laying it on the floor can be risky, better to buy a stand.
